The Bard would have been delighted!

By Peppy Bristlebrush.  Last night, on Bard's Day, September 2nd, the Ivy Bush was filled with folk of all origin: hobbits, dwarves, elves and men. All were there to listen to the Brandy Badgers in a special concert dedicated to the life and works of J.R.R Tolkien, or as we hobbits better know him: Ronald Dwale.  And the Badgers did a great job! They had selected several tunes and had picked poems made by Ronald that suited those melodies extremely well, all sung by the clear and pristine voice of Miss Lina Willowwood. The audience responded with enthusiasm, cheering and dancing and had a lovely time. Many a dwarf could not keep his tears from flowing when that beautiful ballad was sung, the Song of Durin. The concert lasted little over an hour which was way too short judging by the reactions of the visitors and a couple of encores were played to please the audience. After the official program was over a few minstrels added their own tribute to Ronald Dwale, most notably Lady Miste who sang a most exquisite song in her own native elf-language. Our own Master Simbo contributed with his poem "the Minstrel".

When it was time to round things up, Miss Lina pointed at the painting on the wall, next to the bar of the Ivy Bush. It was a portrait of no other then good old Ronald Dwale! All raised their glasses to a toast to the most meaningful wordsmith we hobbits will ever have: Had there been no Ronald Dwale, there had been no literature about hobbits, one could easily say.

Thank you, Brandy Badgers, for a great initiative that was well executed and performed! We hope to see you again next year on Bard's Day!
