Are you a lone musician? A poet? A storyteller looking for an audience? And, are you a hobbit? Welcome to the Lone Bards Night at the Green Dragon! And since Yule is near, let's have a Lone Bards Yule Friday!   Date: Friday December 18th, 2015

Time: 8PM ((UK time, 3PM servertime))

Location: Green Dragon Inn, Bywater.

As discussed in a lament for the lone musician, I’d like to see more solo performances in our world, not just large bands playing. Others have expressed similar wishes too, and there seems to be an interest to preserve and even strengthen the solo or small-group bard culture here.

So we’ll do do something about it! And what we’ll do is arrange a Lone Bards Night!

What is Lone Bards Night?

First of all, this will be part of Green Dragon Friday, the long-lasting weekly hobbit gathering. This is where hobbits meet up for a night at the inn on Fridays, to relax and enjoy themselves after a long week.

Lone Bards Night is essentially “Green Dragon Friday unplugged”. This will mostly be Green Dragon Friday as usual, but with one big exception: We won’t allow bands to play. Instead, we ask for solo or duo-based entertainment:

To allow for as many performances as possible, please do not plan with too much time (max 10-minute entertainment). Short and sweet is good!

In particular, we encourage new hobbit entertainers to come perform! While there are many veterans around whose performances are always welcome, at the Green Dragon we have a particular fondness for first-time (and even second- or third-time) performers. I am sure you’ll find us to be a friendly and appreciative crowd, so please don’t be shy!

How to sign up

So you’re a hobbit entertainer and would like to perform at Lone Bards Night? Yay! Grand! Here’s how you can sign up:

Just show up at the Green Dragon on Friday! When the night kicks off, the host will ask for entertainers to sign up. ((This is done by sending a /tell to the host, where you say what you would like to do)). The host will then open up for the different performers during the of the night.

Green Dragon Friday typically lasts ca. 2 hours.

What about other Fridays?

First of all, please know that solo and duo performances are very welcome at any Green Dragon Friday, not just on Lone Bard's Night. The reason we arrange this Lone Bards Night is that we’d like to put more emphasis on the lone bard culture in our world, so it won’t all be about large bands playing. So, please sign up to perform even if you don’t have a seven-hobbit strong horn section supporting yer. One lute or some simple rhymes is often enough to keep the audience spellbound.

Based on the experiences from the first Lone Bards Night, we have turned this into a regular event, happening once a month.

Welcome hobbits! Let us make this a night to remember!

((OOC

Please note: This is an event for hobbit roleplayers. While travelling dwarves are welcome, for lore reasons we generally ask that the Big Folk do not attend. Please roll up a hobbit instead to attend, it is grand fun!

Please remember to keep your performance somewhat hobbity lore-relevant. Green Dragon Friday is about roleplaying hobbits in the Shire, and their traits and interests should be a good guide for your performance as well. Don’t worry too much, though, we certainly welcome inexperienced roleplayers too!
