Having recently been to a night of fun and frivolity at the Green Dragon, it has come to my attention that folks have forgotten the very classic words to an' old folk song. Twice now I have heard this song played at the Green Dragon, but without any words being sung, and I think it is simply a shame that young hobbits today might not remember this traditional tune!

So I have provided the lyrics for this song below.

Drink The Beer Down

((to the tune of Blow the Man Down))

#Come all ye young fellows that likes a good ale,

#Sit yerself up and drink yer beer down!

#Now please pay attention and hark to my tale,

#But first give me time to drink this beer down.

#Some drinks are a gamble, might go down real smooth,

#Hey there, drink yer beer down!

#Then kick in yer head like a pair o' mules hooves,

#Ooh, ugh, just keep yer beer down...

#For me there's just one drink that don't do me wrong,

#Hey there, drink yer beer down!

#And it ain't mead or whiskey or even good grog,

#Hey, ho, drink the beers down!

#It's a good honest beer, maybe ale or a stout,

#Hey friend, you plannin' to drink that beer down?

#I tell ya friend, beer is what life's all about!

#Lift up a glass, drink yer beer down!

***

Some older, alternative verses:

I'm an old hand at drinkin' from whiskey to grog,

Hey, there, drink yer beer down!

You buy me a drink and I'll sing you a song,

Hey, ho, drink the beers down!

Now some of these drinks, folks, they won't do you right,

Hey, ho, drink the beers down!

Too much of the wrong and you'll wish that yer died,

Oh dear, just keep yer beer down...

And some of you might have a soft spot fer wine,

Hey, there, drink yer beer down!

And if yer like sweet stuff, I guess that's just fine,

Hey ho, drink yer beers down...
