An old man was sitting

And wearing a hat

A young lad came over

And started to chat

"Can I ask about that?"

The young hobbit asked:

"What's under the hat?"

"Are you keeping a pet"

"So warm in your hat?"

"I imagine it nestling"

"On your hair, is it sat?"

"Is it a rat?"

"But on second thoughts now"

"I don't think it's that"

"For maybe it's something"

"You quite like to pat?"

"Is it a cat?"

"On looking more closely"

"It seems rather flat"

"Perhaps a small creature"

"That isn't so fat?"

"Is it a bat?"

The old man he smiled

As he raised up his hat

And there was revealed

Not a rat, cat or bat

But another hat!

The young hobbit asked:

"Now, what's under that?"
