Poem - Forgetful

By Simbo RumblebellyÂ
There's something I should do today
A place to go? A thing to say?
But what it was, I now know not
I'm sad to say I've clean forgot
My mind is blank!
My memory, soon, I hope to wake
The more I think, my head it aches
No pennies drop, no bells do ring
I've forgotten almost everything
My heart has sank
Perhaps it could involve a friend?
Was there a letter I should send?
Or relatives that I must see?
Is someone coming round for tea?
Should I prepare?
I root around in desks and drawers
In cupboards, and behind the doors
I even look beneath my bed
But nothing pops into my head
There's nothing there!
I walk around, retrace my steps
I hope to still remember yet
I study everything I see
And hope the thoughts come back to me
But I'm perplexed
I think of things from yesterday
And hope new thoughts will come my way
I've forgotten many things before
And remembered them again, I'm sure
But still I'm vexed!
Perhaps if I don't think so much
I won't feel like I'm out of touch
I try to clear out all my mind
And leave the thing I need to find
There must be one....
Hurrah! I think I do recall
By mind's no longer blank at all
I have remembered just in time
My task it was to write this rhyme!
And now it's done!
