Soft sounds from the countryside, like whispers through the trees
Warm laughter and merriment, just like a summer breeze
Come witness the Party Tree, dressed with candles and signs
Yer friends are here fer yer birthday, them brought both ales and wines

So here we are, dear old friend, it is yer birthday again
And we’ll drink to yer health all day long
We’ll share a pie, maybe two
And we’ll have fun all night through
Laughter and joy here with yer, singing this song

Time now fer yer birthday meal, the first of many tonight
Pork, crackling and apple sauce, with taters roasted right
Steamed pudding with butterscotch, a slice of blueberry pie
Pour the brandy and cider, and wave the food goodbye

So here we are, dear old friend, it is yer birthday again
And we will drink to yer health all day long
We’ll share a pie, maybe two
And we’ll have fun all night through
Laughter and joy here with yer, singing this song

Bards take to the party stage, their songs are lively and loud
Dance now with yer chosen one, whose warm smile makes yer proud
The sky lights up with fireworks, rockets launched from The Hill
One day older yer may be, but here the time stands still

So here we are, dear old friend, it is yer birthday again
And we will drink to yer health all day long
We’ll share a pie, maybe two
And we’ll have fun all night through
Laughter and joy here with yer, singing this song

So here we are, dear old friend, it is yer birthday again
And we will drink to yer health all day long
We’ll share a pie, maybe two
And we’ll have fun all night through
Laughter and joy here with yer, singing this song

Best sung to the tune of “Dandelion Wine” by Blackmore’s Night, this one was written for the Harvest Apple Celebration in the Appledores. The song tries to be a rather general birthday song for hobbits, hopefully good for many parties to come. The sweet melody of the Blackmore’s Night original makes for a lovely sing-along tune. So, er, sing along to the chorus now: “So here we are, dear old friend, it is yer birthday again”
